New Year, New Beautiful You!
As we get ready to say goodbye to 2016 many people are quietly reflecting on the year that just passed and a future that is full of possibilities. Self improvement is always high on that wish list of resolutions. Getting fitter at the gym, starting a new diet , quitting smoking or promising to never drink again as your head pounds and throbs from all the champagne toasting. Doing any of these things and sticking to them is fantastic and will be evident on your skin. A healthier you translates to a beautiful healthy skin. Here is my list of great skincare tips for 2017. A new year is a fresh start. If you’re ready to get serious and kick off the new year right, here’s my 8-step plan for beautiful skin. #1 Sunscreen!
Wear daily and reapply often. I can not stress this enough. Daylight exposure is the #1 cause of premature skin aging so a minimum of SPF 30 should be used 365 days a year, rain or shine, inside or out. Windshields and windows do not protect you from UV damage.
#2 Develop A Good Nighttime Routine
The skin repairs itself most effectively at night. You say you are too tired to remove your makeup? Do this as soon as you get home from work or after dinner. Your nighttime routine doesn’t have to be done minutes before you hit the bed.
#3 DON’T PICK AT YOUR SKIN
The life of a blemish is just 3-5 days, but when you pick at one, that red mark can linger there for 1-2 months. I know it’s tempting, but you can make problem skin much worse by forcing bacteria deeper into the skin, resulting in scarring and further breakouts.
#4 CLEAN YOUR COSMETICS BRUSHES ONCE A WEEK Bacteria and oil can build up on your cosmetic brushes, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Use a mild shampoo and lukewarm water.
#5 HAVE YOUR MOLES CHECKED
Once a year, you should visit a dermatologist to have a full body check, especially if you have a family history of skin cancer, are fair-haired, or have gotten excessive sun exposure. Early detection can save your life. Ask your esthetician during your next waxing or facial treatment. We can not diagnose but we can alert you to have something checked out by your dermatologist.
#6 Clean Up after The Gym
Keep alcohol free facial cleansing wipes in your gym bag if you wait to shower at home. Look for high tech workout gear that wicks the sweat away form your skin so you don’t develop Bacne.
#7 Exfoliate Regularly
I recommend doing this only twice a week. Find out what method is best suited to your skin type.
#8 Find A Professional Skin Therapist/Esthetician
