Waxing Poetic about Brazilians

December 16, 2017

Love that super smooth feeling you get after a fresh wax? Want to keep it that way longer? Here are a few things you can do to get the best possible wax and remain bump free.  First before we get into the tips let's discuss the different types of bumps you may be experiencing. Immediately after or while the service is still being performed you may notice your skin getting red, raised and irritated. I expect some pinking during a wax. That assures me that the hair has been completely removed at the root, that is what we want. However some clients have what is known as a histamine reaction. Basically this is your body's defense mechanism when it thinks it's being attacked. Go figure! I'm only applying hot wax and ripping your pubic hair out. So this is normal and will subside. What I'm more concerned with are ingrown hairs. They are painful and far from pretty. Listed below are some things to keep in mind before your next trip to the waxing studio.

1. First and foremost find a good esthetician! Improper technique can cause hairs to break and spring back into the skin. This happens when the pull is up and away from the body vs. keeping it low and close. A novice can also lift/tear your skin and leave bruising.

2. Wearing tight clothing can create friction that can lead new hair growth back into the follicle. You also want to steer clear of the lacy thongs and go natural with cotton panties allowing everything to breathe.  Remember to always wear something loose and airy the day of and after your service.

3. Dry and/or Dehydrated Skin can make it difficult for hair to grow out properly. Make sure you are moisturizing twice daily, especially right after you get out of the shower. Choose an unscented lotion, perfumes can cause irritation.

4. Exfoliate gently with a scrub, loofah or use a product with salicylic acid at least every other day depending on severity of your ingrowns. This will also help prevent future ingrown hairs and as a bonus, if done a few days in a row before your next waxing, it will result in your smoothest wax yet.

5. Do Not Pick!!!!

Attempting home surgery almost always results in making the situation worse. Causing infection, pigmentation and scarring. Use a spot treatment and if that doesn't work have your esthetician remove it during your next Brazilian.
